Eco Spirit – Beata Geyer and James Culkin

For MAP’s Eco Spirit exhibition Beata Geyer and James Culkin will be exhibiting: Sectio Aurea

The Golden Section

Dividing a line so that the shorter section is to the longer as the longer section is to the whole line defines the golden ratio. It is an irrational number, inexpressible as a simple fraction. Its value is one plus the square root of five, divided by two- approximately 1.618. It is represented by the Greek letter f (phi). f has intimate connection with unity; f times itself (f2) is equal to f plus one (2.618…), and one divided by f equals  f minus one (0.618…) (from Platonic and Archimedean Solids)
