Alan
Schacher
Alan Schacher is a performance artist with a history in contemporary arts, dance and theatre. He currently works on small scale solo performances and installations where the body and associated materials are the primary means. His main topics of investigation are diasporic identity and the energetics and performativity of different spaces. His work aims to evoke imaginary histories and rituals.
Alan holds an MFA and Grad Dip from UNSW (CoFA, Alexander Mackie / City Art Institute). He studied 3D Design at Berkshire College of Art & Design UK, theatre with Drama Action Centre Sydney, dance with Russell Dumas (Dance Exchange) & in many dance workshops in Europe and Australia. He was a member of Min Tanka’s Maijuku butoh dance company in Japan(1989-91) and formed Sydney performance ensembles Gravity Feed (1992-2004) and Gravity Research Institute (2000- 2019).
He lives in Katoomba with performer Wei Zen Ho.They often collaborate and regularly travel to SE Asia to perform at independent festivals.
