MAPBM Presents: Theatre of Light: the Ectoplasmic Apparition Machine

MAPBM presents: Theatre of Light: the Ectoplasmic Apparition Machine, unfolding on the 4th of July at Wentworth Falls School of Arts
An evening of sound curios, wonder, and unworldly transmissions, curated by Naomi Oliver and Mx Robert Frost. Featuring an astral projected performance by Katya Petetskaya, moving somewhere between presence and absence, body and echo.
The night will drift between séance and signal, where performance slips in and out of visibility like an apparition. Visuals and handmade apparatus accompany the sound works. Flickering devices, refracted light, and illusion-based experiments draw on the language of nineteenth-century spiritualism and the mechanics of the famous Pepper’s Ghost illusion. Immerse yourself in the suggestion of levitation, ascension, and perhaps even contact.
Tickets: $30 and $25 concession/MAPBM Members from https://events.humanitix.com/mapbm-theatre-of-light.
Wentworth Falls School of Arts, 217-219 Great Western Hwy, Wentworth Falls NSW.
Doors open 7:00pm and performance begins 7:30pm sharp. There will be a 20-minute intermission.

Artists:

Naomi Oliver is a contemporary artist with a multimedia practice that includes video, glitch and sound. Her work exposes and celebrates technological defects and the lo-fi, including corrupted digital imagery, audio cassette tape, static, feedback, and distortion (visual and audio). For the last few years Oliver has been performing with live video-mixing and synth vocals to accompany her atmospheric soundscapes and experimental songs at events such as Soft Pedal II at Leo Kelly Blacktown Arts Centre, Dream Alley Dream, INSEQUENCE by SIR_CUIT and Vacuus Rituale.

Mx Robert Frost is a Wizard who lives in the mountains. Their work explores how sound can shift awareness and create altered states through embodied listening and interaction, as well as emotional responses to technology.
They perform exploratory, experiential sound works and build electronic devices and installations, fostering accessible, playful approaches to synthesis and experimental sound and light.
They are part of several experimental event series, including Synth Circle, Salon of Refuse, and The Blue Mountains Void Observance League.

Katya Petetskaya is a transdisciplinary artist working across performance and visual art. Her work explores alternative forms of knowledge and modes of existence. Through performance and visual art, Katya examines expanded ways of perceiving and engaging with the world.
